Las Vegas To Tear Down 9/11 Memorial
Las Vegas announced its plans to demolish the 9/11 memorial in order to add an open space modeled after New York’s Madison Square Park.
The memorial appeared spontaneously under the reproduction skyline of the New York-New York casino in the days following the terrorist attacks. Visitors from across the country hung first responder T-shirts to decorate the wrought-iron fence surrounding the replica.
MGM Resorts International will tear down the memorial located on the Las Vegas Strip in order to renovate the promenade in front of the 16 year old Manhattan-themed casino. The project is expected to cost $100 million, and will recreate New York’s Madison Square Park.
