Place Paddy Power Bets Using Facebook Messenger

Well-known Irish and UK bookmaker Paddy Power has reportedly become the first online sportsbook to offer its customers the ability to place bets directly through the Facebook Messenger mobile application. The company's new chatbot feature is set to become available soon and will give its registered customers a convenient and faster way to bet through the top social media platform.

The chatbot is the product of Onionsack, a provider of text betting messaging platforms. It lets punters log in to their online Paddy Power real money account though the app. Via Onionsack's SaaS messaging platform, players will be able to check their balance and place bets by typing a message detailing the bet they wish to make. The chatbot will automatically understand the message and complete the transaction on the customer's behalf. It functions very similar to SMS-betting systems.

Text betting isn't anything new. Several UK sportsbetting brands, such as William Hill and Ladbrokes, already offer Onionsack SMS-betting systems to their punters. What makes Paddy Power's use of it so interesting is it's the first time a sportsbook has offered it directly via social media.

Moreover, in addition to making bets with the new feature, customers will also be able to request odds and can receive custom push notifications, videos, blog post and podcasts straight to their Messenger inbox.

"We know our customers love mobile messaging apps so having a ChatBot on Facebook Messenger is the obvious first step into the ChatBot marketplace," said Paddy Power Product Director Michael Healy.

"Nearly all of Paddy Power’s customers are on Facebook, and now they can actually place a bet through the Facebook Messenger app with ease," Healy added.

According to Onionshack CEO Jonathan Power, more bookmakers are expected to launch their own chatbots in the near future to provide their players with a more personalized betting experience.
