playMGM: New Online Casino Coming to NJ

MGM Resorts International recently announced that it will be partnering with GVC Holdings to launch an online casino and poker games brand in New Jersey. The new iGaming company will go live under the name playMGM.

The new online gambling destination is expected to launch later this year and will feature 300 casino games as well as cash play and tournament poker options. As part of the new agreement, GVC will operate the online gambling for MGM.

This isn't the first partnership MGM has had with the international sports gaming and betting company. GVC currently powers the software behind the Borgata brand, an online and casino poker site it has powered since 2013. MGM owned a 50% stake in the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, when iGaming became legal in the state and took full control (100%) over the flagship casino in August 2016.

That said, what makes this particular iGaming announcement of playMGM significant for MGM, is it is the first time the company has offered real-money online casino and poker with its name attached.

Chief operating officer of MGM Resorts, Corey Sanders, said that "This is a historic moment for MGM Resorts to be launching real money online casino and poker under the MGM brand for the first time." Sanders added that "GVC has been a first-rate partner for us, and we are excited about the possibilities of extending that partnership as regulated markets open up in the U.S."
